If you're studying your first building surveying qualification at an AIBS-accredited course, your membership is completely free.

Students in non-accredited courses pay just $77 per year. If you go on to become an Accredited Member, you can claim a credit for up to four years of paid student fees.

How to join

Joining as a Student Member is simple and takes just a few minutes.

  1. Check your eligibility: you must be enrolled in your first building surveying course.
  2. Confirm whether your course is AIBS-accredited.
  3. Apply online: provide your details and proof of current enrolment (see FAQs below).
  4. Start connecting: access your member dashboard, explore events and join the conversation.

 

What happens when you graduate?

When you complete your qualification, you'll transition to Graduate or Associate Membership. This gives you continued access to CPD, networking and support as you gain the practical experience required for AIBS Accreditation.

Once you've gained the required experience, you can apply for Accredited Membership.

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for AIBS student membership?

If you're studying your first building surveying qualification at any recognised university, TAFE or training provider, you're eligible to join.

What evidence do I need to supply for student membership?

You'll need to submit proof of current enrolment with your application and then annually to maintain your student membership.

Your evidence must be dated within the last three months and clearly show your name, course of study, educational institution and current enrolments.

Acceptable documents include a letter from your school, your record of study, or a current tax invoice from your institution. Applications cannot be processed without this evidence.

How long can I stay a Student Member?

You can be a Student Member until you complete your first building surveying qualification. You must submit evidence of enrolment each year applicable.

Do Student Members have voting rights?

No, Student Members can't vote or be an officeholder for AIBS, but you get access to everything else—CPD, events, networking, resources and support. Once you become an Accredited Member, you'll gain full voting rights and eligible to apply for positions on committees for AIBS.

What's the difference between accredited and non-accredited course membership?

If you're studying an AIBS-accredited course, your membership is free. If your course isn't accredited, you'll pay $77 per year, but when you become an Accredited Member, you can claim back up to four years of fees, as long as your student membership has been continuous.

Can Student Members attend CPD and events?

Absolutely. You can attend AIBS webinars, conferences and training programs at student rates. It's a great way to learn and meet people in the profession.
