AIBS Welcomes New CEO

The Board of AIBS has appointed Sid Gokani to the role of Chief Executive Officer. He commenced at AIBS this week on Monday 13 November 2023.

Mr Gokani has extensive senior management experience across a wide range of roles and industries and he takes over from Brett Mace who departed in August after ten years as CEO.

AIBS President, Troy Olds, welcomed Mr Gokani to AIBS and said he was chosen from a large field of quality applicants.

“Once it was clear that Brett Mace couldn’t return anytime soon to a full time role as CEO due to the sudden, unexpected illness he suffered earlier this year, the Board commenced a search for a new CEO, and it was satisfying to see so many quality applicants wanting to join our team,” Mr Olds said.

“The Board considered that Mr Gokani’s high level management experience, together with his skills in creating a positive organisational culture and his track record of successfully leading member based organisations, amongst other attributes, were the right fit to take AIBS and building surveying forward and to build on the great achievements we have already made in recent years.

“The Board is committed to developing our professional standards scheme for building surveyors and to increase its acceptance by industry, government, building surveyors and the general community, particularly consumers of building services.

“We look forward to working with Mr Gokani to progress the strategic priorities in the AIBS Strategic Plan 2023 – 25 which are to attract and retain members, develop the professional standards scheme process and to influence governments by communicating the role of building surveyors and the value of the AIBS Scheme to consumers and the public interest.”

Mr Gokani holds extensive qualifications including an MBA from the Macquarie School of Management, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) from Loughborough University in the UK.

During his career in Australia, he has held high level management posts in the aviation industry with both Qantas and Virgin and most recently was Chief Executive with the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM)

During this time, he has earned a reputation as a values-driven leader with diverse commercial, operational and governance experience, and a strong orientation towards product and service innovation, and continuous improvement of people and organisations.

“I’m excited to join the AIBS team at this important time, as we develop and promote the profession of building surveying in Australia and look to influence and shape the landscape in which our members operate,” said Mr Gokani.

“I’m committed to working with people to create positive organisational culture,” he said. “And, I’m very much looking forward to bringing to AIBS my leadership experience in member based organisations.”

“My aim will be to ensure that the value building surveyors bring to industry and the broader community is recognised and appreciated and I know there is still a lot more that can be done in this area.

“I aim to meet as many AIBS members as I can in my first few months in the job and hearing your thoughts and ideas on how we can reach the goals we have set for AIBS and building surveying.”
