As of 31 July 2020, building assessments, inspections and building safety matters will be dealt with under the PDI Act for rural areas, and then September 2020 for metropolitan areas. 

The new Act proposes a significant number of amendments to building assessment, inspection and safety requirements which building surveyors at councils and working privately must be ready for.

In this full day training session delivered by KelledyJones Lawyers, we will examine and explain in details, all manner of building matters under the new Act, including the following: 

  • Building consent DA lodgement
  • Assessment and determination 
  • Development approval certificates of occupancy
  • Essential Safety Provisions (ESP's)
  • Inspections 
  • Enforcement and compliance, and 
  • Appeals, for council building officers and building certifiers.

Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of all building matters under the new Act and will be in a position to confidently advise clients, customers and community members as to their rights and obligations under the new Act. 


About the Speakers:  

Victoria Shute

Victoria is recognised as one of Australia's leading planning and environmental lawyers. Victoria is known for her depth of experience, personable nature and ability to provide clear answers to difficult and technical legal questions.

Emily Nankivell

Emily has intimate experience with local government planning processes, having worked as a planner at various councils for more than a decade, and has extensive knowledge of the challenges, processes, relationships and culture of local government. 

Emily is an up and coming specialist in planning law, and now represents councils, related entities and statutory authorities in planning, building and development matters 

Emily is approachable and professional with a well-developed ability to focus on issues from the client's perspective. She is motivated by achieving positive outcomes for the people she represents. 

She also has experience at Ombudsman SA and provides advice and representation on a board range of matters across our wide practice areas. She as been published in national legal publications and has presented at training and Q&A sessions for their clients. 

When she is not at work, Emily enjoys expanding her indoor plant collection and gardens and has a penchant for fashion, particularly vintage clothing.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds for registrations should be provided in writing to [email protected] as outlined below and calculated from the first day of training:
 More than 30 days - Full refund
 Between 7 and 30 days - 50% refund
 Less than 7 days - No refund

Participants may transfer their registration to another training session up to one (1) working day prior to the commencement of the training day without loss of funds.

Payment Policy: Payment is required PRIOR to attending the event.
  • All registrations are confirmed upon completion of registration and issue of an invoice
  • Payment terms on all invoices are the earlier of 14 days from the date of invoice, or prior to the first day of the event (where registration is completed and invoice issued less than 14 days from the first day of the event).
  • Any cancellation of registrations for seminars must be made in writing to [email protected]. A failure to make payment in accordance with the above terms will not be accepted as a valid cancellation.
