The Victorian Chapter will be hosting a number of half day condensed workshops throughout 2008. We are in the preparatory stages of developing these and they are designed to meet a perceived shortfall in the regular training seminars. On the 20 February 2008, AIBS (SA Chapter) forwarded an open letter to all Council CEO’s and the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) regarding the potential for structural failure of prefabricated roof trusses in buildings constructed between 1970 and 1997. Word from the Department of Housing and Works on the status of the Building Act project, is that on Monday 21st January Cabinet approved the drafting of the Building Bill and associated Certifiers Bill. Cabinet also approved to draft the Building Commission Bill and the new Builders (Registration) Bill. The AIBS understands the Department of Housing and Works is now awaiting formal drafting priorities for each of the Bills which will inform the timeframe for the development of all the new legislation ... |

| Welcome to the second edition of the AIBS National E-Newsletter, as previously mentioned this is part of a new trial to further enhance our communications to members. Inside this issue, you will find some very useful information from the various chapters, along with some general business tips. This newsletter is designed to give you a greater insight into Building Surveying across Australia. As the AIBS is a national organisation, we will endeavour to focus on the wider issues affecting the profession. Members are reminded to submit newsworthy articles or stories by the first Friday of each month for publication in the next issue of the monthly E-Newsletter. Where possible, it should be relevant to the overall profession.
