About this Event
Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) products have been available in Australia for over 25 years and for more than 80 years in Europe. The emergence of AAC in this time as a versatile lightweight building material has seen its growing demand for use in various residential and commercial building systems in an evolving building industry with an appetite for an increasing use of new and alternative building products. Its properties and versatility in design as a cladding material makes it important that the correct use and installation of AAC products is understood to facilitate use of this material to its greatest potential.
With the 25 year history of AAC in Australia, and its applications traditionally considered performance solutions with respect to the Building Code of Australia (BCA), the referencing of new Australian Standard AS 5146.1-2015 – Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete - Structures into NCC 2016, has heralded a new era for AAC systems as Deemed to Satisfy building solutions.
This seminar sets out to address the particulars of the technical requirements around the use of AAC products and systems together with a detailed examination of the NCC BCA requirements related to external cladding.
As part of the AIBS “External Walls in Focus” series of seminars, delegates will be presented with the latest information related to fire separation, including between Class 1 dwellings, ensuring that the dampness, weatherproofing and fire resistance requirements of these environmentally friendly and lightweight forms of construction are well understood.
Also at this seminar event, AIBS has joined with CSR Hebel to bring to you a comprehensive spotlight on Autoclaved Aerated Concrete use in the context of the technical requirements related to fire separation, dampness and weatherproofing, as those requirements relate to external cladding.
The seminar will also address the various building applications and capabilities of AAC, how compliance of AAC systems is achieved with respect to various performance requirements of the NCC including fire, weather tightness and others, limitations for the products use, examples of best practice installations and fixing methods, avenues to reduce risk for inspectors and certifiers and the technical capability, services and support offered by CSR Hebel.
The session will conclude with a detailed look at real world examples of the implementation of compliant work and the consequences of a lack of compliance and delegates will have an opportunity to raise questions with the expert presenters on the topic. Jeremy Turner, the AIBS Technical Manager, will present the technical requirements portion of this seminar, allowing those in attendance a valuable opportunity to meet and familiarise themselves with his role in supporting AIBS members.
The seminar series will be suited to Building Surveyors involved in assessment or inspectorial activities, building supervisors, contractors and those involved in the design process.
